The two gifts, the gift of analysis, the gift of sensibility, that so
often conflict, here enhance each other -- each contributes, neither
dominates. "The concordance we find in Cezanne between an intelligence
rigorous, abstract and exacting to a degree, and a sensibility of
extreme delicacy and quickness of response is here seen in masterly
action." The words are true of Roger Fry himself. The flower has kept
its color and the microscope its clarity.
